I mean, there are so many other, more grander ways to announce His entrance, arrive in style, so to speak. But He chose to enter as an infant, completely helpless and totally dependent on His human parents. There's something very touching to me when the image of Mary breast-feeding Jesus comes up. It's a very powerful image and deeply meaningful, which is why I have "Maria Lactans" constantly displayed on the right. I can't adequately express how meaningful it is in words. There was an article I read a few years ago regarding this but I'm way too lazy to go look for it.
And then there're those 3o years He spent living at home with the parents. Why live so quietly like that for so long? The easy joke for me to come up with is so that 30 year-old men today who still live in their parents' basement can connect with Jesus somehow. Our God thinks of everything, you know?
But seriously, His living at home-- it must have been as mundane as anyone else's life at the time. Since a lot of Jesus' lessons are taught by His actions, I always wonder what He meant for us to take to heart by the choices He made, especially the obscurity He chose for the majority of His life. I think, in a lot of ways, it shows just how much Jesus loves Mary. May I have the grace to love the way Jesus loves. How much pain and suffering must I endure in order to get to that point? I think I know the answer to that.
